She is extraordinarily lucky to survive: girl suffers minor injuries after somersaulting through the air following car smash A six-year-old girl is "extraordinarily lucky" to be alive after she somersaulted through the air and was thrown 10 metres from a car during a collision in Sydney's north, a doctor who treated her said. CareFlight doctor Geoff Tweeddale said the girl was ejected through the back door of a hatchback and came out of her booster seat mid-air after two semi-trailers and a car collided on the F3 at Wahroonga on Tuesday morning. He said it was unbelievable she escaped with only a few cuts and bruises. "She is extraordinarily lucky to survive coming out of a car in an 80km/h zone on a freeway," Dr Tweeddale.
"The odds are seriously against you to come out of an incident like that with relatively minor injuries,http://www.phoenixsun8s.biz/," he said. He said the impact of the crash had popped open the back door of the car she was in,http://www.bugsbunnys8s.biz/, allowing her to fly out. "She was not actually strapped into the child seat. For some reason she and the car seat went out through the door and flew some distance but [she] departed from the seat and ended up separately on the road." Dr Tweeddale, a CareFlight doctor of 12 years, said motorcyclists wearing leathers had suffered worse injuries when they had come off their bikes without hitting anything. "They are wearing leather to take all the abrasions and this little kid has been somersaulting around on a road but all she appeared to have was some superficial head injuries."
All northbound lanes of the freeway were blocked to traffic to allow a CareFlight helicopter to land at Hornsby. Paramedics were called to initial reports of a girl who was not breathing with head injuries but she was talking when emergency services arrived. The girl,http://www.jordangrapes5s.biz/, from Engadine, was taken in a stable condition by a road ambulance the Children's Hospital at Westmead for observation. Her mother, 27, who was driving at the time,http://www.playoffs12s.biz/, and her brother, 4,http://www.squadronblues13s.biz/, did not need hospital treatment. Kuring Gai police duty officer Inspector Dave Lowden said police were investigating the cause of the accident but believed the girl was flung from the car while it was spinning from the impact of the collision.
