Vampire murder accused Mark Adrian Perry was living as a hard-working family man 'Lee' in Perth THE double life of the man accused of the vampire gigolo killing was exposed as he arrived back in Melbourne to face justice. The Herald Sun can reveal Mark Adrian Perry, who is charged with the murder of Shane Chartres-Abbott, lived as a hard-working family man on the other side of the country during the six years after he left Victoria. A handcuffed Mr Perry touched down at Melbourne Airport at 5.30pm. The man for whom a $1 million reward had been offered was escorted by detectives to an unmarked police car on the tarmac.
Mr Perry, 45, will face Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Friday, accused of orchestrating the contract killing of Chartres-Abbott in June 2003. Investigators are expected to ask whether he can shed light on a hitman's allegations that police were involved in the killing of the gigolo and self-proclaimed vampire. Mr Perry is alleged to have ordered the execution because Chartres-Abbott had assaulted his former partner. Those who knew Mr Perry in Perth, where he was arrested on Tuesday night, said he was living under the name Lee Johns or Johnson. They described him as a down-on-his-luck, friendly hard worker who pined for his wife and daughter and who turned up to his first Jordans Cool Greys day on the job at a small kitchen-making factory in 2007 wearing a rope for a belt. His boss, feeling sorry for him, gave him a belt. "I've still got your belt," Mr Perry quipped. A colleague said: "The first time (he worked here) he was basically looking over his shoulder the whole time. This time he was more relaxed." Well liked and never a problem, the long-haired and bearded Mr Perry rarely discussed his life outside of work, and was quick to learn. He shied from being photographed. Just 10 days before his arrest he had moved, after boarding with an elderly woman since Christmas. He had revealed to Terry Ridgway that he had a wife and daughter, and seemed depressed. He also seemed interested in sailing, telling Mr Ridgway he couldn't work Saturdays because he would head out on the water with friends. "In a sense I knew there was something wrong with his background," Mr Ridgway said. "He would say, 'If my brother could see me now', but he was the only one he ever spoke about."
Mr Ridgway said he had thought Mr Perry was from the east coast and was in contact with someone there. Mr Perry was seen last weekend with a man in his 30s who picked him up from work in a van. Mr Ridgway worried about Mr Perry's depression, asking the company's owner not to "load" him up with work. "I think it had something to do with the wife around that time," he said. "He was obviously talking to someone from the east."
Mr Perry was asked to get his forklift licence and needed ID. He produced a passport with Lee Johns or Johnson. "He'd always just rather just blend into the BUGS BUNNY 8S 2013 crowd. "He didn't want to make himself pronounced in any way. As for photographs, there was a time we asked, and he just shied away."
